BIRMINGHAM — Bassmaster has announced its 2024 Elite Series field, and among nine new Elite Qualifiers nationwide is a young man from Farragut.

Robert Gee, 24, has come a long way since being part of his high school fishing team at his alma mater, Christian Academy of Knoxville.

“Enthusiasm reached an all-time high for the St. Croix Bassmaster Open in 2023 as B.A.S.S. unveiled a new “Elite Qualifiers” division that required anglers to fish all nine events across three divisions to qualify for one of nine spots on the Bassmaster Elite Series,” a Bassmasters press release stated. “The result was a hotly contested series culminating in a stacked rookie class of new Elites.

“... The rookie class is packed with talent from the Bassmaster Youth Series,” noting Gee was among those who “fished in college,” doing so at the University of Tennessee.

The 2024 Elite Series season “kicks off at the Gamakatsu Bassmaster Elite on Toledo Bend Feb. 22. The tournament trail then winds through seven states as anglers battle ... for cash and prizes and attempt to qualify for the 2025 Bassmaster Classic,” the release stated. “Each tournament will begin with 103 anglers on days one and two before ... cut to 50 for the semifinal round on day three. Only the Top 10 anglers will fish the final day” for a $100,000 first-place prize and Angler of the Year points.
