• I read the (Letter to the Editor) in the farragutpress (July 19 issue) about Knox County Schools funding. The point is, Knox County provides all the police and fire protection — and most of the money for the (public) schools.

Farragut gets part of the sales tax from businesses that are in the city limit. … The (letter author) was incorrect in her opinion ... Farragut needs to contribute more to the Farragut schools rather than build parks and sports arenas.

• The recent vote by (Town officials) to enter into a contract to buy land at the end of McFee Road for $5.5 million means Farragut will not have the money to solve the problems at Jamestowne Boulevard and Municipal Center Drive and at the intersection of Kingston Pike and Campbell Station (Road), which is having more traffic circulation.

The answer is the development of (private) property (near the Kingston Pike-Campbell Station intersection), and HyVee is a sales tax generator; and we need sales tax, with Farragut voting to buy 55 acres at the end of McFee Road for a future sports park (plus 15 donated). They took that out of their Capital Savings money.

• I read both the (Letter to the Editor) and the Presstalk from last week’s farragutpress. Both were about traffic and speeding. I want new left-turn lanes at Campbell Station and Kingston Pike, without reducing the width of existing traffic lanes, as soon as possible.

I do not want a Farragut police force because it will cause a property tax I cannot afford. I do not want traffic-speed cameras, nor do I think Farragut residents do either. I thought the Presstalk idea of a Farragut traffic safety force was a better idea than traffic cameras, bike lanes or roundabouts.

Our Town has surplus money, and public safety deserves funding. The bike lanes and roundabouts are not stopping the drag racers. It’s time to find something that does.
