In Turkey Creek

Carhartt store opens to serve hard-workers, nature enthusiasts

Whether an outdoor enthusiast or simply a hard worker, the new Carhartt store, 11379 Parkside Drive in Turkey Creek, has the clothing and other gear needed to get you on your way.

Carhartt held the grand opening of its newest store Thursday, Oct. 26, making it the company’s second store in Tennessee.

“We had a really good turnout,” Rob Ergenbright, store leader, said about the opening. “We had people lined up all around the parking lot to get in. It was exciting.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 6.

The store’s roots go back to founder Hamilton Carhartt, who started the company in 1889.

“He started off selling bib overalls to railroad workers he was stitching himself,” Ergenbright said. “It just grew from there” to 38 stores nationwide.

“We’re continuing to grow … from Orlando to Seattle,” he added. “We have a number of stores slated to open this year also.”

Ergenbright said Carhartt’s mission statement is to “build rugged products to serve and protect hard-working people.”

The store carries “work clothing for every individual out there, really, whether they’re outdoor enthusiasts, traditional workers or do-it-yourselfers” for men, women and even children, he said.

“Anybody who appreciates quality clothing that’s going to last, that’s what Carhartt has been known for the past 130 years,” Ergenbright added.

Children’s sizes are available “when we can keep it in stock,” Ergenbright said. “That stuff has been selling really quickly. It’s too cute. And the kid’s stuff can be handed down because they don’t wear them out.”

The company chose Turkey Creek because it “is a destination for people who are shopping for quality,” he said. “We saw an opportunity in Knoxville and knew we could really do well in Knoxville, and Turkey Creek seemed to be a natural choice.

”We’ll have a better selection in this store of our merchandise than anybody in the area,” Ergenbright added. “We’ve had a lot of people coming from surrounding areas — Loudon, Lenoir City, Kingston, Harriman — they’re excited because there’s no closer place for them to get the quality of ours.”

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
