‘Big win:’ BHS blanks Ads

BEARDEN — Needing a “big win” to rally around during the 2024 season, Bearden’s head coach and senior star agreed that a 3-0 victory against rival Farragut Friday night, April 19, at BHS’s Turner-Allender Field at the Radcliffe-Kelly Soccer Complex fit the bill.

“This was one of our first big wins that can get our wheels rolling here and get us on a track to play our soccer every game — game in, game out,” BHS head coach Ryan Radcliffe said.

A header goal by SoccerDawg standout Jack Raulston, a senior midfielder/forward, off a corner kick by senior teammate Nic Prins, came with just 25.2 seconds left in the first half to give Bearden (9-2-1 overall, 3-0-1 in district) a 2-0 lead. It also took a lot of wind out of the Admirals’ sails.

“Getting that goal really gave us more momentum and gave us more fire,” said Raulston, who scored the game’s final goal, again assisted by Prins, with 23:08 to play.

“Giving up a goal with (25) seconds left before halftime is hard for anybody,” said FHS head coach Bradley Culbreth, whose team fell to 5-2-1, 2-1-1.

“We just didn’t put it away on our chances; they did,” he added.

Dillon Sims, SoccerDawgs senior forward, broke a scoreless tie in the game’s 15th minute by drilling a left-footed shot in front of the goal and into the back of the net from about 25 yards.

“I thought our forwards did a good job of coming to play,” Radcliffe said. “Obviously, Jack was big in getting his two goals, but especially early on there, Dillon created havoc, and then even Lucas (Ford, junior forward) created havoc on his side, too.”
