Bounce-back win for Farragut High School’s softball team

HARDIN VALLEY — It was another bounce-back win for Farragut High School’s softball team Thursday, April 18, this time at Hardin Valley Academy.

After losing to William Blount for the second time this season the previous day, the Lady Ads stormed back with a decisive 12-1 run-ruled, five-inning win over the Lady Hawks in a District 4-4A game. A seven-run fourth put the game away.

“Took us one trip through the lineup to get our timing down and be a little more productive,” FHS head coach Nick Green said. “We were able to get a lot of hits and be productive with our swings. ...”

Shortstop Elsa Morrison’s RBI double in the first inning and home runs by both Morrison and Hailey Nichols in the third helped Farragut (16-9 overall, 6-3 in district starting the week) build a 5-1 lead after three frames. HVA’s run came in the first when Ayla Perry singled, then later scored on Emma Kate Schneider’s grounder.

The Lady Admirals’ huge fourth inning started with walks to Addison Pressley and Morrison, the latter being intentional. Nichols’ single, which scored Pressley, was followed by Ava Barnes’ single, which scored Morrison.

Rylee Raby then singled in Nichols and made the score 8-1. FHS would add four more before the inning was over.

Freshman pitcher Hallie Grace Johnson went the distance for FHS, giving up four hits, no walks and striking out two. “Hallie got a complete game,” Green said. “It was nice to get in (less experienced players), see what they can do.”

It’s been a rebuilding year for HVA (2-13, 1-6), according to head coach Autumn Collin. Injuries also have been a problem. “We’re struggling this year; we have a lot of kids hurt and we’re struggling with pitching right now,” Collin said. “We’ve been run-ruled a few times but my girls always give attitude and effort.”

Morrison, a junior who’s committed to Tennessee, hit her 11th home run to center field. “I think we’re figuring it out as a team, starting to get in a rhythm, starting to get more consistent,” she said.
