SJNCS Band receives superior rating at East Tennessee concert festival
St. John Neumann Catholic School's concert band in Far-ragut earned a superior rating at East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s Middle Area Concert Festival.
SJN concert band was one of 47 middle and high schools that competed in the festival at Far=ragut High School on March 9 and March 10.
Lead by Jonathan Leichman, music director, SJNCS Band members performed two songs at the festival: "His Honor" by Henry Fillmore, which was arranged by Andrew Balent, and "Pinnacle" by Rob Grice.
The superior rating is the highest rating and honor a band can receive at this festival, Janet Harrigan, SJNCS director of admissions and development, said.
“SJNCS Band also received a superior rating for required sight-reading — performing a piece of music they had never seen before — in front of another judge,” Harrigan said.
By receiving the superior rating, band members now are eligible to participate in Tennes-see Music Education Associ-ation state band festival in Clarksville on Thursday, April 28, she said.
