Shipley ‘clear’ on DQ
Though no one with town of Farragut said Dairy Queen coming to Town is a 100 percent guarantee, one official expressed confidence it will happen.
“At this time, it seems clear that Dairy Queen will be filling this space,” Mark Shipley, Community Development director, stated in an e-mail about a DQ occupying the former Krispy Kreme location, 11212 Kingston Pike. “Codes officer John Householder sent comments to Dairy Queen’s architect regarding their plans [Thursday, June 30].”
“If they comply with these comments, their plans should move forward accordingly. There has not been a final approval at this time as it’s still in process,” Chelsey Riemann, Town Public Relations coordinator, said.
Shipley “said he didn’t think it would have to go before [Farragut Municipal Planning Commission] because it’s not an outside site renovation. It’s mainly interior changes to that building,” Riemann said. “I think it would just need [codes] staff approval.”
A national restaurant chain specializing in desserts, DQ local franchisee is Frauenshuh Hospitality Group of TN, LLC (located in Minneapolis, Minn.), which also operates as Fourteen Foods.
Frauenshuh first contacted Town officials Friday, June 10, Riemann said, in the form of a building permit application.
To be branded as DQ Grill & Chill according to the application, Frauenshuh would incur an “estimated construction cost of $450,000” for the 2,640-square-foot location, the application further stated.
Repeated attempts to contact Frauenshuh were unsuccessful.
