Farragut EDC officers elected
Town of Farragut Economic Development Committee elected Brandon Hackett chair and Pamela Milliken vice chair.
Hackett is senior vice president at First Volunteer Bank. He said after the meeting he was excited about the chance to serve the community.
“I hadn’t put much though into it. It was just brought up today. So, we’ll find out what the next year has in store,” he said.
Milliken is a mother, a volunteer with Farragut schools, part-time substitute teacher and part-time marketer for Zaxby’s. She said she was looking forward to serving as vice chair.
“I think it’s going to be a great opportunity to help give back to Farragut and make sure the town goes in the right direction,” Milliken said.
EDC met Wednesday, June 3. Phil Dangel, current chair and The Shrimp Dock owner, nominated Milliken. R. Knick Meyers of Meyers Brothers Holdings, nominated Hackett.
“I think the Town does a fantastic job. I just really want to serve this community in any capacity that I could because I plan on being here for a long time. The idea of helping to shape what this community looks like going forward in some small capacity is a fantastic opportunity,” Hackett said regarding his past and future service with EDC.
Hackett said he had served on the EDC for one year and lived in Farragut since 1985. He said his current work involves commercial banking.
Milliken said she was born in Nashville and moved to Farragut about six years ago. She has two children in Farragut schools.
“I’m sure that there will be some things that pop up throughout the year that we’ll have to put plenty of thought into,” Hackett said.
“We’ll have to see what the new term brings,” Milliken said.
The EDC’s charter says the chair and vice-chair serve a one-year term starting July 1. The chair decides if members can vote in matters where they might have an interest, calls special meetings, has the authority to cancel called meetings, provides the annual report to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and, as needed, may appoint subcommittees of the EDC. The vice chair performs the same duties when the chair is not present.
