A rude homecoming was the end result of Brad Taylor’s return to his alma mater last Friday evening.
Taylor, a 1994 Bearden High School graduate, former Bulldogs star player and BHS head coach [2007 through 2013], brought his Karns Beavers to Bill Young Field Aug. 19.
Bearden made short work of Taylor’s new team, whipping the Beavers 59-7 in both teams’ season openers. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on its first six possessions and led 42-7 at halftime.
“We executed our gameplan well,” Bulldogs head coach Morgan Shinlever said. “We did what we needed to do for the first ballgame as far as executing our scheme. We were real proud of the guys being able to take the gameplan we had worked on that week in practice and be able to carry it over to Friday night.”
Senior running back Ty Warren had three touchdowns on the ground. Junior Jordan Ferguson and sophomore Addison Ironside each caught a TD pass from junior quarterback Dawson Houser. Houser also had a rushing score.
Sophomore Kahlil Abdullah scored after sophomore Caleb Wilkins blocked a punt. London Stepp hauled in a 36-yard TD reception from freshman quarterback Collin Ironside.
Senior John Matthew Lee nailed a 36-yard field goal.
“Offensively, that was a total unit effort anytime you’re able to have that much success,” he added. “I would just have to tip my hat to the whole offense. … I was pretty pleased with all of them.”
