HVA girls win 2 at Central
Hawks 53
Roadrunners 43
KNOXVILLE — Two big factors helped Hardin Valley Academy girls start strong during 26th Annual Central Bobcats Thanksgiving Tournament.
Against Carter, “Our experience came into play ... and we had balanced scoring,” said Jennifer Galloway, girls basketball head coach whose Hawks [5-1 starting the week], won 52-43 Tuesday, Nov. 22, en route to a third-place finish in the eight-team tourney.
Symphony Buxton, senior post, led HVA in scoring with 14. Abbey Cornelius had 12 and Lizzie Davis and Bekah Hampton 10 each.
Hardin Valley defeated Austin-East 53-43 Saturday, Nov. 26. Buxton scored 11, Cornelius 10.
The Hawks’ only loss was 57-49 versus Fulton, Friday, Nov. 25. Cornelius scored 18, Buxton 16.
“I challenged Bekah Hampton” who guards the other teams’ top scorer, “and I felt like she did a good job rising to that challenge,” Galloway said.
