New editor named at farragutpress
Tony Cox, president of Republic Newspaper, Inc., parent company of farragutpress, announces the choice of a new editor for the Farragut-based paper.
Alan Sloan, a general assignment reporter at farragutpress for almost 15 years who was first associated with the paper as a stringer in May 1999, began his duties Jan. 2.
A native of Madisonville [Monroe County], Sloan began his community newspaper career as a reporter with the Madisonville-based Democrat-Tellico Laker in January 1988.
Merging with Monroe County Advocate in January 1991, Sloan continued as a reporter with Monroe County Advocate-Democrat until June 1995.
“It’s an honor to be chosen as editor of farragutpress. I’m filling some large shoes,” Sloan said in reference to the late Dan Barile, editor/publisher of farragutpress from September 2003 to December 2016.
“Being quite familiar with our staff, and knowing the talented people who surround me, will make my job much easier.”
