With blistering 3-point touch, FHS girls romp
Though West was a weak opponent on which to base real success, Farragut’s 14 three-point baskets was impressive nonetheless.
The Admirals overcame an 8-0 deficit to crush the Runnin’ Rebels 63-28 Friday night, Jan. 27, in FHS’s Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium. Farragut’s record improved to 10-10 overall, 5-6 in District 4-AAA after the win.
Sophomore wing Morgan Carbaugh shared the team-high in three-pointers [five] with senior teammate Jamie Dallas, with Carbaugh’s 21 total points a game-high. Dallas scored 17.
“It was just really nice to finally get a feel for it, because I’ve been struggling all year on offense. … I always strive for perfection,” Carbaugh said.
“It was definitely one of my better offensive nights,” Dallas said.
Jason Mayfield, FHS head coach, said the 14 three-pointers “probably is” a season high.
About Carbaugh and Dallas, “It was good to see both of them perform like that offensively,” Mayfield said. “Morgan got hot late in the first quarter and Jamie got hot in the second half.
“It is nice to shoot well and actually play well on defense end, too,” he added.
Other Farragut scorers were senior Shelby Matthews and sophomore Sydney Chapman with nine each, freshman Claire Wyatt three points and two each for senior post Kate McMurry and freshman Lauren White.
The Admirals played without junior forward Brooke Christian. Christian, out with an undisclosed injury. Mayfield said he did not know any timetable for Christian’s return as of Friday.
