Farragut High School’s softball team may have lost its first District 4-AAA game of the 2017 season Monday night, April 10, but the Lady Admirals wasted little time putting the setback in the rearview mirror.

“We just have to come back and get ready to play,” FHS head coach David Moore said after watching his squad drop a 3-2 decision to William Blount at FHS’s Bellamy Field. “We have a tough week this week.”

In addition to playing the Lady Govs [18-4-1 overall, 7-0 in district], FHS played at Hardin Valley Academy Tuesday, April 11, and hosted Maryville Wednesday, April 12 [both games after deadline].

Farragut will travel to Lenoir City today [Thursday, April 13], with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m.

Lady Admirals pitcher Callie Moore, who took the loss against William Blount, can’t wait to get on the field again.

“I have faith in this team and I think that we’ll bounce back,” she said. “I think we can definitely do well.”

Callie Moore and William Blount pitcher Kelsey Darnell were embroiled in a pitchers’ duel early.

Farragut [13-4, 4-1 after the loss] squandered a scoring chance early. Kelsie Tuggle walked and Darnell hit her counterpart with a pitch. But the William Blount right hander wiggled out of trouble with a flyout, strikeout and inning-ending fielder’s choice. “I was really proud of [Darnell],” Lady Govs head coach Amanda Leatherwood said. “I’m extremely proud of all my girls for the calmness they showed today.

“This is a tough place to play. They have great hitters and their fans are really supportive.”

William Blount, which took sole possession of first place, went ahead 1-0 in the top of the third inning with an RBI single by Brooke McMahan.

The Lady Admirals scored twice in their half of the third. Lexee Lamoree drove in the tying run when her double scored Tori West, who reached on a fielder’s choice. Farragut took the lead thanks to Tuggle’s sacrifice fly.

Lamoree’s double was Farragut’s lone hit of the contest.

“You’re not going to beat many people when you get one hit,” coach Moore said. “William Blount is playing well right now and we just didn’t do a good job making adjustments.”

McMahan gave the Lady Govs the lead for good with a two-run, two-out double in the fifth.

The Lady Ads stranded the tying run, at first, in the seventh.
