FMS receives $500 grant
Farragut Middle School has received a $500 grant from Exxon Mobile for math and science.
The grant was part of an Exxon Mobile National Math and Science Initiative, of which the company is the founding sponsor.
“We are really excited to receive the grant,” FMS principal Weston Edmonds said. “We received a call from Darrell Welch, district manager of KenJo Markets. He said that Exxon had a grant competition for schools.”
Welch entered FMS in the competition, Edmonds said.
“Farragut Middle School was chosen and received a check for $500, which will be used for staff development and technology.
““It was a thoughtful gesture,” he said. “He thought enough of us to nominate us. It’s going to help the classroom. We can never have too much technology or professional development.
“[Welch] picked our schools because they are closest to his stores,” Edmonds said.
