FHS Invitational
Allison evaluates meet plus girls, boys seasons
Farragut’s Ben Hanson, left, placed second in the 1600-meter run during annual Farragut Invitational track and field meet at FHS’s Bill Parker Track Saturday, March 31.
Annual Farragut High School Invitational track and field meet featured 23 teams from Knox and surrounding counties competing at Bill Parker Track Saturday morning and afternoon, March 31. “Our top performance on the girls’ side was Zoe Swicegood taking second overall in the pole vault,” FHS head coach Chris Allison said. “She set a personal record for herself clearing 10 feet.
“On the boys’ side, our 4 X 400(-meter) and 4 X 800 relays teams placed second overall,” he added.
The Admirals 4 X 400 foursome are Andrew Williams, Scott Grunau, Nathan Chandler and Ben Hanson.
Hanson also placed second in the 1600 run (see photo above).
The Admirals 4 X 800 relay team consists of Jake Allison, Ben Darden, Jacob Cohen and Nathan McFall.
Farragut’s girls 4 X 400 relay team finished third.
Reflecting back on the season, yet looking ahead to bigger things, coach Allison said Williams, a senior, “is probably going to be the key factor for Farragut High School on possibly trying to make it to state.”
In addition to his leg in the 4 X 400 relay, “He does the open 400 and the 200,” coach Allison said.
Overall with both his girls and boys teams, “We’re still kind of young,” he said. “Being my first year as the head coach, I’ve moved a lot of kids around to different events to fill all the events so we can start being a little more competitive.
“That’s the problem we’ve had in the past, not filling all of those events,” the coach added. “That’s what we’ve been working on.”
