Full-service agency has a unique perspective on serving community
A Total Travel Agency has a unique perspective on how it serves the Farragut community.
Farm Bureau Insurance Company owns the full-service travel agency, which has been operating for eight years at 11408 Kingston Pike.
Besides providing travel services to the public, it has a built-in clientele from the Farm Bureau, said Pamela Streufert, travel consultant and manager.
“We do (services for) the incentive groups for the Farm Bureau Insurance Agency,” she added. “I think it is (unusual to be owned by an insurance agency). ... The Farm Bureau just seemed to think it was a natural to have its own travel agency.
“There’s a few other travel agencies, but I feel quite sure we are the only ones owned by an insurance company. So they are not only our employer, they are our biggest client.
Streufert and two other agents were working for another travel agency, but when that agency was sold they all went to work at A Total Travel.
“We are a full-service travel agency,” Streufert added. “There are four of us — three agents and an accountant on staff.”
Agents help book leisure vacation, group and corporate trips.
“We just find out where (customers) want to go and try to get them the best pricing that we can in the best amount of time,” Streufert said.
“Sometimes it’s not a thing they can just come in and buy — snap, like that — sometimes we have to do some work on it and find the best pricing options for them,” she added.
On the other hand, a customer may know exactly where he or she wants to go and at what time.
“We take into account all the different factors and try to do the best for the client to get exactly what they are looking for,” Streufert said.
“We don’t work on commission, so we provide personal attention to our clients and try do the best for them, not the best for ourselves,” she added.
“It’s nice to have a person to talk to if you need help and if you need an advocate to help you with some situation that has come up when you’re traveling.”
A Total Travel previously was located at Northshore Drive for two years before it moved to Kingston Pike, Streufert said.
“We were at Northshore in another Farm Bureau office for about a year-and-a-half. We needed a bigger space, so when (Farm Bureau) needed to move from its (old) office to Kingston Pike, this was a natural fit for us. This office was just set up right for it.
“We do good business here,” she added. “We have a lot of walk-ins. A lot of people know we’re here now.
“It’s a great location — right here in the heart of Farragut.”
A Total Travel is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and by appointment.
