Rickman Optimist oratorical champ

A high school student from Farragut, who said he has dreams of becoming an actor and filmmaker, was among a pair who came out on top earlier this spring in the Optimist Club of Knoxville’s Region D. Oratorical contest.

Daniel Rickman, a homeschooled junior, represented the Optimist Club of Knoxville to win the male category over students from Athens and Chattanooga. Participants were asked to write, then deliver, a three- to five-minute speech on the topic of “Where are My Roots of Optimism?” Rickman went on to represent the region at the district tournament, held in Georgia late last month.
