Independence Day road closures, Freedom Run details announced
Town of Farragut announces road closures for Third Annual Farragut Freedom Run, starting ing at 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 4, followed by 31st Annual Independence Day Parade, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Lendon Welch Way and Kingston Pike, heading west to Boring Road.
Freedom Run details
Freedom Run, which consists of one and two-mile runs, begins Independence Day activities.
It will be the third year for the event, which is sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports.
For the second year in a row, proceeds will benefit Smoky Mountain Service Dogs in Loudon County, an organization providing canine assistance for veterans.
Registration is $25 through Sunday, July 1, then $30 through race day. Registrants on race day may sign up beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Farragut Town Hall, which is where races will begin.
Early registration packets may be picked up at Fleet Feet Sports, 11619 Parkside Drive.
The two-mile race starts at 9 a.m., and the one-mile begins at 9:05 a.m.
Races will run down Kingston Pike, fronting the parade route, and concludes in the old Ingles’ parking lot, according to organizers.
This flat and fast course is USATF certified.

Road closures
Due to the parade and Freedom Run, Kingston Pike will be closed from Concord Road to Boring Road from 8:30 a.m. to approximately noon. Following are the parade detours:
• North side — Campbell Station Road to Grigsby Chapel Road to Smith Road to Kingston Pike (going west) or Campbell Station Road to Parkside Drive to Lovell Road (going east).
• South side — Concord Road to Turkey Creek Road to Virtue Road to Kingston Pike (going west) or Concord Road to Kingston Pike (going east).
• South Campbell Station Road from Kingston Pike to Brooklawn Boulevard and Municipal Center Drive will be closed from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. for the Freedom Run.
The portion of Kingston Pike from Concord Road/West End Avenue to Campbell Station Road will be reopened approximately 15 minutes after the final parade participant has passed through the Campbell Station Road/Kingston Pike intersection. Kingston Pike will be reopened once all participants are safely off the road.
