Lady Ads ‘play well’ in 3-AAA tourney final
Though Farragut volleyball reached the winners’ bracket final during last week’s District 3-AAA volleyball tournament, “We played Heritage … and we did not play well,” Susan Davidson, Lady Admirals skipper, said.
Things tightened up 24 hours later, as the district’s top two teams met in the 3-AAA tourney title match.
Farragut (32-11) lost three close games to the Lady Mountaineers, as Heritage added a district tourney title to its regular season championships, Thursday night, Oct. 4, in FHS’s Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium.
However, “I am super happy of the way the girls responded,” Davidson said.
“We had just played a five-set match against Hardin Valley,” said Caroline Bower, FHS senior outside hitter and one of three Lady Ads earning All-Tournament honors.
Farragut earned a Region 2-AAA berth by winning that five-game semifinal tourney match, in dramatic fashion, against the rival Lady Hawks (15-12 in the deciding set), with the loser’s season over.
“It was energetic, tense, close, great high school volleyball,” Davidson said. “Hats off to Mitzi (McCurry, HVA head coach) and her crew for the season they had.”
Sydney Cherney, senior outside hitter, and Maddie McLemore, sophomore setter, also were Lady Ads All-Tournament honorees.
Farragut traveled to Heritage for the Region 2-AAA Tournament Tuesday, Oct. 9, and squared off with District 4-AAA tourney champ Oak Ridge in the semifinals (after press deadline). The winner kept its season alive, earning a sectional berth today, Thursday, Aug. 11.
The loser’s season is over. The winner faced the West (4-AAA tourney runner-up) versus Heritage winner late Tuesday in the region title game.
If Davidson’s Lady Ads reached the region tourney final but lost, they will head to Upper East Tennessee for a sectional game verus the Region 1-AAA champ this evening, Thursday, Oct. 11. If Farragut won the region crown, it would host the Region 1 runner-up at FHS tonight.
TSSAA Class AAA State Tournament begins next week in Murfreesboro.
