Cox, Town Parks & Rec Dept. earn state awards
Town of Farragut’s Parks & Recreation Services Department was recognized with two awards at the annual Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association conference, held last week in Knoxville.
Lauren Cox, Parks and Athletics Coordinator, received the Distinguished Young Professional Award, which recognizes a parks department employee who exemplifies superior management and leadership skills and a commitment to excellence in parks and recreation.
She was nominated by Farragut Parks & Recreation director Sue Stuhl because “she is a fantastic parks and rec professional. We’re lucky to have someone who really believes in parks and rec as a profession and as a community benefit,” Stuhl said.
Cox, who currently is vice president of TRPA, said she was surprised to win the award because she didn’t know she’d been nominated. “Some of my mentors have won this award, so it’s awesome to be put in the same category as them,” she added.
The department also received TRPA President’s Cup Award for providing “exemplary service to TRPA though attendance at state conferences and service to the organization.”
