• Stinky, dirty, nasty — not to describe you, (U.S.) Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn, merely your campaign.

• Since you asked for suggestions for improving political campaigns (Through the Politics, Nov. 8 issue), here’s an idea that would be easy to implement and would make campaigns much less onerous: disallow robo-calls by political parties or (political action committees) by law. The counter-argument that robo-calls are “getting a political message out” and therefore an impingement of free speech is hollow. Apparently the great majority of robo-calls are from scam artists and politicians. Both are an annoying nuisance and both use the caller-ID spoofing technology to hide behind.
