VG’s, entering its 20th holiday season, is a full-line bakery, so it has everything from breads to cakes and pies, as well as custom orders and breakfast items, Gonzalez said.
“We just put out our Christmas menu this week, so we’ve begun taking orders. They should be rolling in,” he added. “We love this time of year.”
For those holiday parties, Gonzalez recommended cookies. “Getting a good variety is the best bang for your buck,” he said. “The biscotti are really popular. It makes a great gift, (and it’s good) for the stocking.
“The same thing with our quick breads — pumpkin bread, cranberry bread,” Gonzalez added. “Those are great, too.
“Cakes are also popular. We’ve got lots of flavors, lots of decorations and options.”
VG’s Bakery offers specialty cakes, including Yule logs and signature layer cakes such as salted caramel, Southern coconut, German chocolate, super fudge, red velvet, spiced carrot and lemon raspberry delight.
The bakery also has classic holiday cake designs such as a snowman or Santa head, poinsettia or a wintry scene, and there are Bundt cakes with a choice of Rummy pecan or “Mom’s Apple” with Granny Smith apples and cinnamon.
“Our cake decorating team will have lots of Christmassy decorations available on the cake that anybody orders,” Gonzalez said. “We also offer a holiday cookie box, which has shortbreads and peanut butter balls — things that are only December items.
“We don’t do those cookies any (other) time of the year,” he added. “And that’s our top-selling items during Christmas time.”
A holiday breakfast or brunch could include a buttery brioche, holiday yeast rolls, cinnamon raisin bread, scones, English muffins, or seasonal quick breads such as banana, pumpkin, cranberry and ginger.
“We do have folks this time of year who order in bulk for gift-giving,” Gonzalez said. “They usually just come by and pick it up.
“We’ll box it up, we’ll package it up for them,” he added.
To order items from VG’s Bakery, Gonzalez recommends calling 865-671-8077.
“Any one of us can help them out, whether it’s having suggestions for what they’re doing or suggestions on how to package it up,” he said. “We can help with that, too.
“We have our full (holiday) menu online,” Gonzalez added. “I would recommend, if they are doing something in bulk, to give us a few days.”
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. VG’s is closed Sunday.
