Painter Alex Dumas, 91, ‘always looking for ideas’

Renowned local painter Alex Dumas, seated at right, recently painted “Mr. Darcy,” a rescue cat owned by Tom Moseley, seated left, and Barb Moseley, center, which he then made into notecards that are being sold to benefit the CADES Program at Concord United Methodist Church, where the trio attends.
When Concord resident Alex Dumas saw a picture of a rescue cat owned by fellow church members Tom and Barb Moseley, he only thought of one thing. “I thought it would make a great painting,” said the prolific local artist, who celebrated

his 91st birthday Thursday, March 7. “I am always looking for ideas.”

The three attend Concord United Methodist Church and frequently sit together during the 11 a.m. Contemporary Worship service. Barb and Alex also are friends on Facebook, and it was there where Dumas saw the picture of “Mr. Darcy.”

“We have had it for almost a year,” said Barb, who added they had adopted the cat from Young Williams Animal Center.

“He has been a real plus in our lives,” she added. “”My husband suffers from dementia, and he has been a real blessing for us.”

Once Alex was inspired by

Mr. Darcy, he said it only took two days to complete the painting, which he then made into notecards that are being sold to benefit the CADES Program at CUMC.

Having painted since the age of 27, Alex teaches his craft at Strang Senior Center, and shares his work publically.
