Battling cancer, FHS’s Motley earns Sexton Award
FHS hoops coach Jon Higgins presented sophomore Mason Motley with the Lynn Sexton Award.
Battling cancer for nearly a year, Farragut High School sophomore basketball player Mason Motley earned this season’s Lynn Sexton Award during the program’s basketball banquet Wednesday, March 27. Jon Higgins, FHS varsity boys head coach, presented the award.
“I’m so proud of this young man. He has shown such strength and determination this last year. The one constant in his life has always been his love for basketball and his teammates,” said Kristin Motley, Mason’s mother.
“Without them, I don’t know if he would have fought as hard as he did to get through his treatments,” she added. “I was so honored to see him recognized by his coach and awarded the Lynn Sexton Award at the basketball banquet.
“As long as they will have him on the team, he will be by his teammates’ sides, rooting them on and encouraging them to always fight and strive for victory.”
