OAK RIDGE — The so-called “second era” of Hardin Valley Academy football began with a huge road victory, as new head coach Mike Potter took his Hawks to Oak Ridge’s famed Blankenship Field to open the 2019 season last Friday evening, Aug. 23.
Led defensively by three seniors — linebacker Luke Filipkowski (11 tackles, four for minus-yardage), defensive lineman Jaylen Moore (three sacks) and defensive back Kelton Gunn (interception) — HVA defeated the Wildcats 13-6.
“It was a great effort by our defense,” Potter said. “Playing within our scheme, everybody running to the football. Relentlessness.”
Gunn’s 37-yard scamper, plus a 4-yard Filipkowski run provided the two Hawks touchdowns.
