“Routine eye exams consist of checking the patients’ prescriptions, fitting them with glasses or contact lenses, monitoring the health of their eyes — the interior part of the eye and the posterior part of the eye,” she said.
The medical exams are used to treat a patient who has diabetic or hypertension retinopathy or any other medical conditions affecting the front or back of the eye, said Guillory, who has been an optometrist for 12 years.
“We also have several diagnostic pieces of equipment to be able to diagnose medical conditions affecting the eye and also monitor and treat (conditions),” she added.
Though she said, “I like to see children,” Guillory added, “At this location, we see pretty much all ages, from elementary school children all the way up to senior (citizens).”
While not at the Hardin Valley location, the company’s network, which is made up of physician owners, offers a retina specialist, Dr. Matt Cole.
“If anyone needs a further examination or evaluation having to do with the back of the eye, we can easily refer our patients to him,” Guillory said.
Companywide, there also is a general ophthalmologist, Dr. Philip Campbell and Dr. Les Cunningham, who do cataract and lasik surgeries; Dr. Alden Haun, who does cataract surgery; and Dr. Tobin Taylor, who does cataract surgery and blepharoplasty, surgery to repair droopy eyelids.
The Hardin Valley location also offers lasik evaluations for its laser center for those patients preferring not to wear glasses or contact lenses, Guillory said.
EyeCare Optical’s Hardin Valley location opened its doors June 17 in the same shopping center as Maple Street Biscuit Company.
“I was hired by (the company, which has its main location in West Knoxville) specifically for this location last year,” Guillory said. “They decided to open this location because (the area) was growing so much.
“They felt that there was a need in the area, and the demand was there,” she added. “It was just a location that was good to meet the needs of new patients and be in the Hardin Valley area.”
The company also has locations in Farragut, North Knoxville, Maryville and Sevierville.
Guillory joins cornea specialist, Dr. Jake McMillian, who comes in Monday mornings, and other Hardin Valley staff.
Her hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
