Cruising at 15-1, BHS girls win 60-31

KNOXVILLE — Whenever the Bearden High School girls basketball team hits the hardwood, their lone objective is to win.

“We play together and we play for each other, and the only thing we want to do is win,” junior point guard Zneyah McLaughlin said after the Lady Bulldogs (15-1) routed Campbell County 60-31 Friday night, Jan. 3, at BHS.

McLaughlin scored 14 points to lead a potent and balanced attack against the Lady Cougars (7-8).

“Our defense was great,” BHS head caoch Justin Underwood said. “Campbell County is a great team, and when you hold them to under 40 points you really have to be happy with that.”

Emily Gonzalez had 11 points for Bearden. Avery Treadwell and Maddie Brillhart each scored eight off the bench, with Brillhart knocking down a pair of three pointers.

Jakhyia Davis and Asailia Jenkins added six each from inside for the Lady Bulldogs, while Jah’niya Bussell scored four points. Emma Stone chipped in three points via a long-range jumper.
