FHS grad spreads her wings, opens men’s hair studio
“I feel my clients are why I like to do what I do,” Gran said. “It’s a really special relationship between a hair stylist and client and having the ability to bond with people.
“That’s important to me,” she added.
Gran, a 2002 Farragut High School graduate who attended Farragut schools beginning in kindergarten, opened the studio Dec. 5 in Suite 15 of Studios West Salon Suites, 10843 Kingston Pike, where she cuts and styles men’s and children’s hair.
With three children at home, Gran said, “It was time for me to make my own schedule.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own salon but not have people work for me,” she added. “This is what I thought would be the best option for me and my family.
“There’s a lot of different studio-style places out there, but I feel like this is one of the local, one-spot (businesses), and the (building) owner is great,” Gran added. “I have a lot of great clients who have followed me over here.”
With a barbershop background, her studio is similar to a barbershop; however, she is a cosmetologist specializing in men’s styles, so her patrons will not get a face shave. She does offer a straight razor neck shave, however.
Unlike busy barbershops, Gran said she offers a “relaxing, environment for men to get their hair cut in with a definite one-on-one service.
“I also love to do the children’s hair,” she added. “I feel kids are pretty comfortable with me.”
Although Gran now lives in Hardin Valley, “It’s neat coming back here,” she noted.
Mallory G Studio is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday; from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday; from noon to 6 p.m., Friday; and closed Monday and weekends.
