Pair of FHS girls 2nd in wrestling region; BHS loses in region duals

MARYVILLE/KNOXVILLE — While the dual meet wrestling season came to an end for Bearden High School late last week, four local girls medaled at the East Tennessee Regionals Saturday, Feb. 1, at Gibbs High in Corryton.

The Farragut Lady Admirals saw Chelsea Judy (112 pounds) and Elainia Thibeault (150) place second in their weight classes.

Hardin Valley Academy had Ashley Sonenshein claim third at 170, while Bearden’s Kiera Blevins finished third in the 140 class.

As for the boys, the District 5-AAA champion Bulldogs were eliminated in the Region 3 Duals aemifinals, losing to Maryville 49-24 Thursday, Jan. 30, at Heritage High School.

“This was kind of a rebuilding year for us, so winning the district championship was kind of a pleasant surprise for us,” BHS head coach Donnie Floyd said, as his team picked up five individual wins against the Rebels.

At 113, Blake Lanmen scored a 12-7 decision win over Kainen Kyle. At 126, Logan Peterson won by fall when he pinned Drake Light in just 15 seconds; Dylan Burns (132) downed Cash Contreras 7-3; Mat Meade (152 pounds) pinned Gavin Marsh in 1 minute, 18 seconds; and Seth Arana (182) won by fall over Sean Carringer (2:51).
