Lady Ads dominate at BHS
KNOXVILLE — The Farragut High School softball team scored early and often Thursday, March 12, in a 19-4 victory over rival Bearden in a District 4-AAA win at BHS’s Kim Hazelwood Field.
Nick Green’s Lady Ads (2-0 overall and 4-AAA) scored six runs in the top of the first with two outs.
A two-run double from Devon Weller came after FHS opened with three consecutive walks.
Sarah Livingston and Jordan Kanipe had RBI singles, while Farragut scored two more runs thanks to two errors.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-2, 0-2) scored in the bottom of the inning on Holly Craddock’s home run.
But FHS would answer with three runs in the second and extend its advantage to 9-1 on a two-run double by Livingston, who went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs and four runs batted in. Kanipe added a sacrifice fly.
Farragut would go on to score four more runs in the third without a hit to build a 13-1 lead.
Bearden would score three runs in the fifth. Craddock doubled and scored. Bradynn Belcher had an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Jaelynn Story had an RBI groundout.
Farragut scored six runs in the sixth as Autumn Caywood had a three-run double. Katie Tuggle drew a walk with the bases loaded before Farragut picked up three more runs on wild pitches.
“It was good for us to come in and get those runs early,” Caywood said. “It also helped that our pitchers did a good job.”
Starter Abigail Greene and reliever Amelia Retterer each pitched three innings for FHS.
“It’s like (the movie) 300, these teams come in here with 30 players and we only have 13, but we battle,” Bearden head coach Angelica McClerkin said.
