In battle of soccer rivals, Hawks edge Beavers 1-0
HARDIN VALLEY — The Hardin Valley Academy boys soccer team nabbed a key early-season victory against a geographical rival and 2019 Class AAA State Tournament qualifier at home late last week.
The Hawks went into Spring Break after earning a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Karns Thursday, March 12, at HVA.
Hawks senior forward K.C. Rittenbery tallied the lone goal of the game with about 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
“Karns is a great team. They went to state last year,” HVA second-year head coach Brad Delano said. “It was a big win for us in a rivalry game. It was just a hard-fought win.”
The Hawks (1-1) opened their 2020 campaign with a 2-1 loss at Oak Ridge Tuesday, March 10. The Hawks’ lone goal came from senior midfielder Zander Bolas.
After the Hawks suffered through an injury-plagued campaign in 2019, “We’re having fun playing together and we’re moving along,” Delano said.
