With a ‘passion for underserved,’ Grant selected as ‘Student Leader’

Recognized for her “passion for underserved children” who “mentors dozens of students weekly in the after-school program at nonprofit THRIVE in East Knoxville,” Riona Grant, a Class of 2020 graduate of Farragut High School, has been selected by Bank of America as a “Student Leader” who has started her “paid summer internship experience of leadership, civic engagement and workforce skills-building in light of the health concerns that remain in local communities,” a bank press release stated.

Grant plans to attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville in the fall and study pediatric nursing.

“The program has been adapted to a virtual format, through which students will have the opportunity to participate in sessions that will expose them to the vital role nonprofits play in advancing community health, the importance of public-private partnerships to advance social change and a focus on building financial acumen,” the press release further stated.

Grant and other Youth Leaders “will participate in a collaborative, mentoring-focused project working closely with The Restoration House of East Tennessee,” the release stated. “The Student Leaders are collecting and documenting interviews and materials Restoration House can use for fundraising, social media and advocacy.”

“The Knoxville Student Leaders from Bank of America are innovative, passionate and disciplined and have become an integral part of our team over the past three summers,” said Daniel Watson, executive director of The Restoration House of East Tennessee.
