Six FHS teachers recognized for excellence, earning Golden Anchor, Binnacle Awards
Six Farragut High School teachers recently were honored by FHS Education Foundation.
Five — Jamie Armes, Laura Austin, Jordan Brown, Cathryn Maye and Matthew Milligan — won the annual Golden Anchor Awards, which are given to teachers who have been nominated by students, parents or community members, then are voted on by a panel of judges.
Each received $1,000 from the Foundation.
Also honored was Tracy Moore, who earned the Binnacle Award, which also is presented annually to a staff member and is chosen by school administrators. Moore received $500.
“Last year we gave out six Golden Anchor Awards, this year we gave out five,” said Jean Ogle, 2019-20 Foundation co-chair. “We give as many as we are able based on the amount of money we have coming in.”
The community helps fund these awards, she explained.
“The Foundation earns the money for these awards from the Kroger Community Rewards Program,” Ogle said. “Anyone can sign up for this by going online and linking their shopper card to FHS.”
“It is a wonderful way to help out your school just by doing your regular grocery shopping!”
