Museum marks Town’s 40th
Area residents can get a glimpse of Farragut’s beginnings with the most recent exhibit in Farragut Museum as the Town continues celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The exhibit, “Farragut at 40: Celebrating 40 Years of History” opened Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive.
“The exhibit is for the 40th anniversary of our Town of Farragut,” said Julia Barham, Farragut Museum’s historic resources coordinator. “(The exhibit) was supposed to open in April, (timing with the anniversary date) but we weren’t able to do that” because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As such, Barham said the museum, which only recently reopened, has shorter hours, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
“For the time being, it’s a little different than it has been previously,” she added.
The exhibit features items from the 1980 time period and the Town’s incorporation, she said, noting people can see original documents of the Town’s founding, information on court trials and documentation on the difficulties the founders faced.
Visitors also will find items from that period, such as a typewriter and a celebratory T-shirt. “It will be a very interesting exhibit,” Barham said. “It’s almost entirely composed of items from our archives.
“I feel really good about the exhibit. It’s great to see the reasons we (founded the Town). I think it’s great to get to show it this year, during the anniversary year,” she added.
