Clinic locations designated by new Farragut zoning ordinance
A new zoning ordinance to designate drug treatment clinic locations — keeping them away from schools, for example — along with medical, dental, veterinary and pain management clinic locations was approved Thursday, Aug. 13, on second reading by Farragut’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The ordinance requires drug treatment and pain management clinics to be located within the Town’s Regional Commercial District (C-2).
This action follows months of research on the best approach, given citizen feedback that was building.
“In response to community concerns, the staff conducted a workshop in March with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in the issue of regulating pain management and drug treatment clinics and facilities,” Community Development director Mark Shipley said.
He noted during that workshop, as well as workshop sessions with Farragut Municipal Planning Commission in April and May, the staff presented different issues.
Based on the input received, Shipley said the staff presented the ordinance at the June Planning Commission meeting, where the proposed ordinance unanimously was approved and sent to BOMA.
