Last-minute win at Invitational from host BHS
KNOXVILLE — Brinley Murphy helped Bearden High School’s girls soccer team capture a comeback victory Saturday night, Sept. 5, at home.
Murphy, a sophomore forward, scored a goal and had an assist on the eventual game-winning marker as Ryan Radcliffe’s Lady Bulldogs outlasted Chattanooga Baylor 3-2 in the Bearden Invitational at Turner-Allender Field.
“We’re almost a completely new team this year. I think we only have three of our starters back from last year,” said Murphy, one of the area’s top scorers as a freshman in 2019.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-1) sawBaylor (1-2) score first when in the 22nd minute for the half’s only score. Bearden’s Zneyah McLaughlin had a shot hit the goalpost in the sixth minute.
McLaughlin would find her shooting touch, as she knotted the game in the 50th minute (Rylie Lucas assisted). Murphy would give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead approximately five minutes later when she put a shot past Lady Red Raiders’ goalkeeper Addison Yelton.
With Baylor tying the game in the 78th minute, junior Kailyn Scott scored the game winner in the 78th minute on a pass from Murphy.
