Easily winning regionals, FHS golf teams think ‘state’

LENOIR CITY — Blowing away the Region 2-AAA field at Windriver Monday, Sept. 28 — Farragut’s boys golf team winning by 30 strokes (295) and the FHS Lady Admirals champs by 19 strokes (154) — both teams are thinking big as they head to the Class AAA state tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 6-7, at Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester.

Confident both of his teams can compete for a high state finish, “Right now we’re playing pretty well,” Admirals skipper Jon Higgins said.

“I like our chances, as long as we can stay consistent, on both the boys and the girls side,” he added.

Halama medalist, Wang 2nd

Both Lady Admirals score qualifiers finished as medalist and runner-up in region, as Lexanne Halama, a senior, earned medalist honors by firing a 76.

Runner-up Vivian Wang, a junior, was close behind Halama with a 78.

Senior Lindsay Ott shot an 84.

Simpson, Queener lead boys

Senior Lance Simpson and freshman Owen Queener led the champs at region, each shooting 72.

Connor Price, a senior, followed with a 73. Brady Harville, a freshman, shot 78, while senior A.J. Rinehardt ended with a 79.
