Setting itself apart as ‘Inspirations’

New Farragut area dance studio offers variety, has ‘open policy’

Area dancers — and hopefuls — have a new studio option just east of Farragut.

Kimberly Delacourt of Loudon County recently opened her second Inspirations Dance Studio, this one at 10541 Kingston Pike. She also operates an IDS location in Athens, which opened in 2008.

“We had been looking at opening a studio in West Knoxville for a while,” said the mother of six, who also continues to dance professionally as both a belly dancer and fire dancer.

Setting itself apart

“My knowledge of the commercial world of dance, coupled with our experience, really set us apart,” Delacourt added.

“I love working with kids and watching them grow to love dance.”

While the space was previously home to Knox Dance Worxs, Delacourt oversaw some changes to its layout, which included opening up a lobby area and installing two interior windows so parents could watch their children dance.

Such observation is part of her “open studio” policy.

“I love and encourage our parents to see how their children are doing and how they are progressing,” she said, noting not all studios encourage the practice.

Another way IDS differs from traditional dance studios, according to Delacourt, is in its offerings, which includes both traditional (ballet, hip-hop and jazz) and non-traditional (gymnastics, tumbling, acrobatics and silks instruction).

In the near future, the studio owner said she plans to offer competitive dance team options and classes in the circus arts. Adult classes also are planned.

No contracts are required; recitals are optional and private lessons also are available.

Background, family

The Florida native’s own dance experience began at age 2, and continued through high school and college before she began dancing professionally with Walt Disney World.

Five of her six daughters dance, including Kambria and Cleo, who help teach in the IDS studios. Amber is performing with the World of Dance.

Delacourt started teaching dance in Florida. She and her family, which also includes husband, Tom Delacourt, and daughters, Meadow, Autumn and Ariella, moved to Tennessee 14 years ago.

Affordable

One of her goals is to make sure dance is an affordable option for families.

“I want to make it a possibility for families of all income levels,” Delacourt said.

Classes begin at $75 a month for weekly classes. Delacourt offers multi-class and multi-sibling/family member discounts.

First classes are free. Potential clients may register in person or online at https://app3.jackrabbitclass.com/regv2.asp?id=538267.
