‘Fabulous’ showing, as Ads earn indoor state track runner-up

Managing to finishing as state indoor boys track and field runner-up without any relay entries, Farragut’s overall performance in Birmingham was “kind of a shocker, just to bring the few amount of kids we brought to state … yet being able to take second was fabulous,” FHS head coach Chris Allison said, listing five All-State Admirals leading the way.
He also praised three of his top Lady Admirals also earning All-State honors.
Farragut top five
Leading the way for the Admirals included junior Mason Collins, “a future decathlete and (FHS) football standout that placed second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump,” Allison said. “… “This young man is in his first full year in track (& field), and most definitely is going to be someone to reckon with (due to) his ability to cover multiple events.
“I will be able to stick him in certain events that we might be little experienced in with other athletes and get the points we need come KIL Championships,” the coach added.
Senior Connor Evans placed second in the 400-meter dash and won his heat.
“Connor is going to be a very tough competitor to other teams in the 400, and now is working on moving to the 800 as well,” Allison said. “We are hoping and thinking he will be a tough competitor in the 800.”
Senior Jonathan Shved placed second in pole vault, and senior Grant Coggin finished third in the pole vault.
“Both of these kids will be a good one-two punch for this team, and be relied on for points,” Allison said.
Junior Tyler Ebbert finished fourth in the 800 in his heat.
“Tyler ran a 1:59, a personal best, and we believe the best is still yet to come from him,” Allison said. “Just like Connor Evans, he is working on the 400 to help the 4 x 400 (relay) team get back to state.
“With him going down to the 400, it will only help him with speed when he goes back to the 800,” the coach added.
Lady Ads’ top three
Junior Lexi Foley placed fourth in the 800-meter.
“Lexi went up against a couple of top 800-meter girls in the nation at state and held her ground,” Allison said. “She will be one of those athletes that we rely on in the open 800/4 x 400 and 4 x 800 (relays).”
Junior Camryn Johnson claimed sixth in the 800.
“Camryn is coming off a great cross country season and is already proving that she can handle the mid-distance along with the longer distance races,” her coach said. “We will be relying on Camryn in helping our the team contend.”
Senior Mara Spadafora placed fourth in the 400. “She is like Connor Evans, looking to move up to the 800 to get better in her 400 event,” Allison said. “I’m real excited for her this season.”
