Dawgs roll past Jeff County
KNOXVILLE — Bearden High School’s boys basketball team punched its ticket to Murfreesboro and the Class AAA State Tournament.
The Bulldogs overcame a slow start and played its trademark defense on its way to defeating Jefferson County 63-38 in a Section 1-AAA game Monday night, March 8, at BHS.
The Bulldogs surrendered the first seven points of the contest before closing the opening frame with a 13-5 run. From there, Bearden (30-3) never trailed again thanks to their pressure defense.
“That’s just what we do,” Bulldogs’ head coach Jeremy Parrott said of his team’s defense. “We give up about 43 points per game, and this team is going to set a school record for defense. They’re going to give up the least amount of points per game in the history of Bearden High School.
“They take pride in that and I’m really proud of them for that,” he added.
JCHS was able to keep things close early, as Patriots 6-foot-7 center Noah Bowman scored 10 of his 12 points before halftime, while Kobe Parker nailed a pair of 3-point shots.
“We knew they had a couple of guys who could score the basketball,” Parrott said. “But once we got going, we shared the basketball well.”
The Bulldogs had four players post double figures in the scoring column.
Elijah Bredwood led the way with 14 points. Hayden Treadwell added 12 points (all before halftime). A.J. Pruitt and Walker Kyle had 10 points each — will all of Kyle’s coming after the break.
