COVID-19 vaccine open to all by April 5: Gov. Lee

With Knox County Health Department expanding the eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations to those in Phase 2a/b and those 55 years and older, which began Monday, March 22, Gov. Bill Lee announced Monday that all Tennessee adults will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations effective Monday, April 5.

For now, “Phase 2 includes people in critical infrastructure, including: public transit employees, telecommunication staff and utility workers among others,” a KCHD press release stated. The full breakdown of Phase 2 can be found within the statewide plan at https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/health/documents/cedep/novel-coronavirus/COVID-19_Vaccination_Plan.pdf

“Tennessee continues to see increasing supplies of COVID-19 vaccines, which allows the state to rapidly accelerate eligibility to receive the vaccination,” the KCHD release further stated. “TDH requests every dose of COVID-19 vaccine made available to the state: 2.9 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered to Tennessee providers to date.

“There are approximately 134,600 individuals who are 55 years and older in Knox County. More than 75,000 of those individuals are 65 and older and are already eligible. Those 55 years and older or in Phase 2 will be able to sign up on KCHD’s waitlist.”

Entering this week, “More than 151,000 vaccinations have been administered in Knox County,” the KCHD release further stated. “As it stands, Knox County leads the big four metro counties in percent of population who are fully vaccinated.”
