• About the Letter to the Editor by Mike Arms in the March 18 issue of farragutpress, it was very well written, and also I thought he made a great point about people who would like residences in the Campbell Station Road-Loop Road area: school teachers, librarians, firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, retail store managers, restaurant managers and bank employees — they need a place to stay. They cannot afford $450,000-to-$500,000-and-upward-priced homes in Farragut, so they need apartment homes to live in. I think it’s obvious that the Mayor of Knox County, Glenn Jacobs, was not going to withdraw his letter of support for Farragut Pointe off Loop Road. And John Huber is a good developer; we ought to encourage people like John Huber. Mike Arms, who’s also a good public leader in the community, had a great Letter to the Editor. We appreciate all those people.
• Concerning the low-(and middle) income apartments that are proposed off Loop Road, I really feel that Mayor Glenn Jacobs, the Knox County mayor, has done a disservice to the people of Farragut and to the people of District 5. He is refusing to accept calls, he is refusing to meet with the people. The people of Concord Hills want to meet with him and tour the site. And he has one of his administrative assistants simply saying, “No, the mayor will not rescind this letter.” Pilot (Program) payments, in lieu of taxes, are supposed to be used only as a last resort. The developer can develop these into apartments; he has the zoning. This road is not sufficient for low-(and middle) income housing. The wives and the children of the people who are the main provider, if they don’t have cars they are sent on a suicide mission to go to the store. This is unfair to the people who will live there, it’s unfair to the people of Farragut and it’s unfair to the people of the 5th District. Mayor Jacobs, we expected so much more from you. We are very disappointed. Why will you not meet with us?
