BHS, M’ville fall hard vs. FHS softball
With 8-run inning, Lady Ads 10-run rule Lady Red Rebs
Farragut High School softball head coach Nick Green makes no bones about the fact his team has offensive potential.
“We should be able to score a lot and often,” Green said after his team routed District 4-AAA rival Maryville 13-3 in five innings at FHS’s Bellamy Field Monday, March 29.
The Lady Admirals (7-1 overall, 3-0 in the district) darted out to a 2-0 lead after two innings before Maryville (2-5, 1-2) answered when Kendal Pitts clubbed a three-run homer over the left-field fence in the top of the third.
Farragut regained control by plating eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. It was 10-3.
Designated player Hannah Pfeifer had a two-run double and Cameron Young drove in another run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Avery “Ace” Strickland drew a walk with the bases loaded and Emily Musco provided an RBI when she was hit by a pitch.
“We didn’t hit the panic button because we knew that we weren’t in a tournament game and we didn’t have a time limit,” Green said.
“... It was good to face some adversity early in the season and battle out of it,” he added.
The Lady Ads took a 1-0 lead in the first when Strickland walked, stole second and third and scored on an error.
FHS extended its edge to 2-0 in the second when Ava Guzkowski scored on a groundout by Strickland.
