Bearden loses at FHS 10-4

A little rain couldn’t dampen spirits as the Farragut High School softball team beat rival Bearden 10-4 Tuesday, March 23, in its home opener at Bellamy Field.

After the game, FHS honored seniors Cameron Young, Kaleigh Taylor and Jordan Kanipe. Taylor started as designated player. Kanipe went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Young went 4-for-4 with a homer, four runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Farragut also got production from leadoff hitter Avery “Ace” Strickland, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and a pair of stolen bases. Emily Musco also had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

“Jordan Kanipe had a great Senior Night and Strickland did what Strickland does,” Farragut head coach Nick Green said.

Lauren Brakovec doubled, while Ava Guzowski and Autumn Caywood added RBIs.

Junior lefthanded pitcher Avery Flatford went six innings, surrendering two runs, six hits, a walk and a hit batter while fanning 14.

“She pitched well and she had better command of her pitches,” Green said. Reliever Emma MacTavish pitched the seventh.

The Lady Dawgs (2-2, 1-1) scored in their final at-bat as Reese Waltman had an RBI double and Lauren Spainhower drove in a run with a groundout.

“We had some chances today, but we have to swing at strikes and we have to swing at pitches that are more of our style,” BHS head coach Angelica McClerkin said.
