FHS league champs x 4
Ads’ late power holds off HVA’s late power
The brief history of the Hardin Valley Academy-Farragut High baseball rivalry has featured some epic clashes.
At John Heatherly Field/The Ballpark at Farragut Monday evening, April 26, the Ads outlasted HVA 7-5 to give FHS sole possession of first place in District 4-AAA at 12-1.
Down 1-0, Farragut (27-2, 12-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A three-run homer by Angus Pence and an RBI single by Lukas Buckner made it 4-1.
In the top of the fifth, Archer Wong-Shasteen’s RBI single plated Brycen Denton to pull the Hawks (23-5, 11-2) within 4-2. HVA scored first in the fourth inning when Ty Denton singled home Wong-Shasteen.
The Ads went up 7-2 on Hudson Seigler’s RBI single in the fifth before Buckner, FHS freshman second baseman, hit his first career home run, a two-run shot to center field.
“He’s been working hard,” said FHS head coach Matt Buckner, also Lukas’ father.
“We have a good team and they have a good team, so it’s going to be a battle every time,” he added.
On the mound, “Our pitchers (Jaxson Pease and Hunter Merrick) pitched pretty well today,” the coach said.
Hawk Jaylen Jones clubbed a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh.
“We’ve scored more runs in the seventh inning than we have in any other inning this year,” HVA assistant coach Ben Barnett said.
