FHS grad named director of gov’t affairs for TN REALTORS

Farragut High School alumna and University of Tennessee graduate Lauren Cecil recently joined the staff of Tennessee REALTORS as governmental affairs director for the statewide association.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lauren and the skills she brings to our staff team in the vital area of advocacy,” said Angela Shields, Tennessee REALTORS CEO.

“It’s so important to be sure the REALTORS’ voice is heard in the halls of government when decisions are made that affect private-property owners, buyers, sellers and Tennessee communities,” she added.

The association represents more than 32,000 members.

Cecil will lead efforts in legislative and regulatory advocacy, working closely with Tennessee General Assembly and fostering involvement among REALTORS members in advocacy and the political process, an association press release stated.

Most recently, Cecil served as manager of Government Affairs & Outreach for Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Additionally, she previously worked with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasurer’s office, was a legislative assistant with State Sen. Doug Overby, worked in the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office and also served as an intern for former U.S. Sen. Bob Corker.

Cecil, who graduated from FHS in 2009, is the daughter of Bill and Janell Cecil of Farragut. She joins fellow FHS alum Phil Newman, (Class of 1986), who is Tennessee REALTORS’ communications director.

Cecil holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Tennessee-Knoxville and a Master’s degree in public administration from Tennessee State University.
