• The Knoxville Area Association of Realtors recently presented its highest honor, the 2020 Realtor of the Year, to Laura Slyman, who is broker, owner and auctioneer with Slyman Real Estate and the Laura Slyman Team.
The award, presented to a Realtor nominated by his or her peers, recognizes the member’s business accomplishments, service within the organization and community involvement.
• Jason Young, professor and director of University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design, recently was named the college’s dean. Young will succeed Dean Scott Poole, who announced in 2020 that he would step down and return to the faculty.
• South High Senior Living, a recently completed BarberMcMurry project, recently won City of Knoxville Mayor’s Award as part of Knox Heritage’s East Tennessee Preservation Awards. The awards recognize outstanding projects, people and organizations contributing to historic preservation efforts in East Tennessee.
BarberMcMurry of Knoxville designed the original South High in the 1930s. After the school closed in the 1980s, the building fell into disrepair before finally landing on Knox Heritage’s Fragile Fifteen list.
• Kimberly Hamilton recently joined Friedman’s Nashville office as vice president of Investment & Advisory Services. Before joining Friedman, Hamilton was an investment broker at Marcus & Millichap in Nashville and a member of the National Health Care Real Estate Group.
