HVA hopes state T & F qualifiers bring No. 1

FHS girls 4 X 800, section No. 1, is ‘best state time’

Qualifying for the Division I Large TSSAA track and field state meet in 31 events, Hardin Valley Academy girls and boys teams — both Section 1-Large champs at Johnson City Science Hill Saturday, May 15 — “have a chance” for state title glory in Murfreesboro tonight (Thursday, May 20), head coach Bryan Brown said.

“They qualified enough at the section meet to give themselves a chance,” he added.

HVA boys state qualifiers are Austin Rome (400-meter dash section champ and 200), Michael Spurgeon (110 hurdles section champion), Sam Miller (pole vault and 300 hurdles), Ben Smith (200, long jump and triple jump), Asa Mazow (800), Kaden Keller and Andrew Schultz (3200 and 1600) and Mitchell McCown (3200) plus three relay section champs: 4 X 800, 4 X 400 and 4 X 200.

Lady Hawks state qualifiers are Dominique Romain (100-meter dash section champ, long jump section champ and 200 dash), Madison Romain (300 hurdles section champ), Sidnee Stanton (triple jump section champ and long jump), Brooke Taylor, long jump, triple jump), Rachel Buckner (300 hurdles), Claire Graham (100 hurdles), Gracie Waite (shot put), Harper Allen (pole vault) and Maddie Archdale (3200) plus the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 section champs; 4 X 400 and 4 X 800.

Farragut qualifiers

State qualifiers for the section third-place FHS Lady Admirals were led by the section champ 4 X 800 girls relay team of Parker Willis, Kennedy Reynolds, Cameron Johnson and Lexi Foley with a state-best time of 9:33, who are “picked to win the whole thing (state) now,” head coach Chris Allison said.

Also qualifying were Laura Speth and Samantha Harvey (pole vault), Mara Spadafora (400), Foley and Willis (800) plus the 4 X 400 relay team.

Boys state qualifiers for section runner-up Farragut are Grant Coggin (pole vault), Mason Collins (long jump, triple jump and high jump), Connor Evans (400-meter dash) and Tyler Ebbert (800) plus the 4 X 200 and 4 X 800 relays.
