Webb has pair of doubles state champs; CAK’s Faulkner No. 1
MURFREESBORO — Led by state singles champ Maeve Thornton, a sophomore, Knoxville Catholic’s girls tennis team earned the Division II-AA team title Wednesday, May 26, at Adams Tennis Complex.
While the Lady Irish disposed of Brentwood Academy 4-0 in the semifinals before beating Baylor 4-2 in the state title match, Thornton went on to defeat Sean Mullin of St. Benedict 6-4, 6-4 to capture her girls singles crown.
Webb, CAK singles, doubles champs
With Christian Academy of Knoxville’s girls finishing as Division II-A state runner-up, CAK eighth-grader Allie Faulkner beat Kai Wince of Lausanne 6-2, 6-2 for the girls singles title.
Webb senior Lili Roth and junior Delaney Boone beat Brilee Davis and Addy Measley of USJ 6-3, 6-1 for the boys doubles title. Helping lead the Spartans boys to a runner-up team finish were doubles champs Alex Jurgens, a junior, and sophomore Wilder Dewhirst.
