From ‘Book’ to ‘Art,’ Fest-wise

Town of Farragut’s former Book Fest is making way for a new event, Art Fest.

This Farragut Parks & Recreation inaugural event for the general public — free of charge and sponsored by the Arts & Beautification Committee — is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, at Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestowne Blvd.

Town staff and the committee “are very excited for this new event and excited to have it at the beautiful community center,” said Brittany Spencer, Special Event and Program coordinator.

“We wanted to move our art event to the fall to fill a gap in the special event schedule, and also because April is such a busy month for the community,” she added. “… The ABC wanted to spruce up Book Fest, which had been in place since 2007.”

Spencer said Art Fest would feature interactive art activities inside and outside, weather pending.

“Art Fest will be an event focused on … interactive art activities, where Book Fest was more of a focus on local authors with some miscellaneous art activities,” she said.

While Art Fest is geared toward children — it should be fun for all ages, Spencer said.
